Each home business expanded my ability
to earn from home. I was able to support
our family and allow my husband to leave
his full-time job for two years, giving him
the time he needed to complete building
our home. In addition to MarmeeDear &
Co., I also started up The HomeMaker’s
Mentor. Partnering with other like-mind-
ed homemakers, we offered mentoring of
home skills to other homemakers around
the world in a membership program. I
eventually sold the HomeMaker’s Men-
tor library and was able to use the
revenue to start up our newest home
industry, an idea we conceived after
attending our son’s wedding at a barn!
By this time, we had purchased surrounding parcels of land, increasing our
original ninety acres to 130 acres. Our
built-from-scratch home was completed
and we were searching for a retirement
income opportunity. Not that we plan
on retiring anytime soon! Last year my
husband built a 3,500-square-foot barn-style building using felled trees from
our acres and our sawmill. We rent this
building for various events. The family
works together to prepare the grounds
for events, and our daughter-in-law is our
event coordinator. The name of our new
venture? Greene Acres, of course!
It’s been nearly four busy, fun, trial-and-error decades of keeping home,
rearing eleven children, homeschooling,
and growing our home industries. I
wouldn’t have it any other way! I still love
everything about doing it all at home!
