a no-brainer. One thing I despise is poor
customer service. When I call a company
with a question, I prefer to speak to a
real person rather than be sent through
a menu of numbers only to never reach
a human! I do my best to always answer our phone (but because I’m also a
mother there are obvious times when I
can’t answer the phone). If you leave me
a message I will respond within twenty-four hours. No matter what, I will
always have a real person available to
answer customer service inquiries.
Sometimes we had huge spikes in sales
and got caught with hundreds of orders
to fulfill with all our supplies quickly
exhausted. Each time we learned how to
become more proactive, productive, and
organized to handle those situations and
what used to take us weeks to produce
we now can do in just a few days. I can
work circles around my old self—
With continued growth and demand, we
had to create retail packaging to best display and protect our product in a retail
environment. I was faced with creating
something that had huge financial ramifications that I had no experience with.
After consulting with a few packaging
manufacturers that chewed up a lot
of time and didn’t end with the right
fit, I decided to take matters into my
own hands. Armed with a package of
card stock and a ruler, I asked a friend
of mine who works in laser cutting to
help me out. I created the template and
Brian found a local company to create
the finished product. It was quite the
investment of time and money, but the
finished product allows Strawesome to
shine in a brick-and-mortar retail loca-
tion. I learned that sometimes I have to
just trust that I have more of the answer
within me than I think.
I am grateful that I followed my intuition
on this journey because this business/
product matches many of my passions.
Not only do I get to create and design
the product, but I also get to spread the
word about the dangers of plastics to our
environment and our bodies. I’ve always
been a huge advocate for reducing our
footprint on the earth and reducing the
amount of toxins we put into our bodies.
I get great satisfaction and fulfillment
knowing that my business helps our
customers live healthier lives.
Sticking with it through the ups and
downs of being a mom and business
owner hasn’t been easy, and there will
continue to be new challenges, but I love
it and know it’s right for me. Without
the help of my husband and his business
knowledge or my sons and their love of
drinking from my straws, I would not be
the success that I am today. I’m proud
of who I get to be: Architect by Train-
ing, Mother by Choice, and Creator of
Strawesome by Pure Passion.
